Howdy!

Ahhh…Saturday….Sunday’s Friday :) ….Yeah…i have watched too much of American Dad i guess :)

This week was okay, a fellow co-worker was on a RHCE course (RH300) so we were a bit short staffed. Some stuff got put on hold until next week since we are pretty loaded most of the time.

Today i configured ClusterWare 11 with one of our DBA’s. I think ClusterWare is one of the good products from Oracle…It seems to be a very solid piece of clustering software and i plan to do some experiments with it in a Active/Standy clustering with MySQL and other products later on….when i have plenty of time :) .

Last night i went to sleep very early since i was friggin tired, but i woke up early and got to work….So i decided to drink a bit of MGD tonight and watch some music channels. As sad as this sounds, it is awesome to slay few MGD’s and watch some crazy Stone Sour videos :) ….

I upgraded my wordpress installation to 2.5 tonight…the editor seems to be a bit nicer!…a big shoutout to the WordPress team for great work!

Well …gotta go take a look at more new WordPress features!

Bringing other people to Linux land….

Howdy,

Just finished a Fedora 8 install on my sons computer. It is a old workstation of mine and works perfectly with Fedora except i had some issues with the wireless card earlier. But after the latest kernel update everything has been fixed.

I installed KDE and configured the PC to use Icelandic as the default language since the translation is much better then in Gnome. I also configured the desktop effects so now he has super cool desktop effects which his friends will probably envy him of :)

This mourning i went on a HP EVA 4400 intro which proved to be pretty good. The new boxes will probably be a hit since a EVA 4400 is a lot easier to manage then the DS4000 series or the Clariion CX3 series…..

Bleh….im off

Back to linux land! :)

Howdy,

Last night before i went out i started a network install from the local mirror on my new workstation of Fedora 8. When i woke up hungover this morning i started configuring my new workstation and in about 20 minutes i was up2date (781MB of updates!:)) and ready to roll. I mounted my data from my local fileserver through NFS and installed my Fluendo gstreamer codecs and wow ..it did not take more then 20 minutes to finish pretty much everything. Tonight i installed lm_sensors & the sensor applet for gnome and after running sensors_detect everything was ready. Some people say that configuring Linux is horrible and complicated …But man, configuring Windows on a fresh machine takes a whole lot more then 20 minutes :O…..

Of course i am not the casual home user so i guess that is part of why i am somewhat quicker to configure my desktop installs, but however configuring Windows Vista or Windows XP takes me a whole lot more then 20 minutes.

On my work machine i am running Windows Vista SP1 with great success, however i would like to run Fedora on that machine however i was unable to get suspend to work correctly and i have a dual display setup at work that i was unable to use after waking up after putting my puter asleep at home and reconnecting it to my docking station at work.

I am going to do a Fedora install when Fedora 9 is out on that machine and try it out but as of now i am very happy with the Vista install on that laptop. I must say although that Windows release is being judged a lot for being slow, un-usable etc etc i cannot say that my experience is bad. I am able to do my work, use my laptop as a laptop ;) meaning that i can sleep/wake up, extend display to a new monitor without rebooting etc etc.

Well …going back to have some fun with my fancy new workstation …laters:)
